Known as the “Basalt.Guru,” he brings eighteen years in being one of the first people to recognize and embrace the advanced properties of basalt volcanic rock. Nick pioneered its use as a stronger, lighter alternative to steel in concrete reinforcements across the U.S. “A USA basalt fiber facility will allow for competitive pricing, quality control, sustained availability and use by local, state, federal and military applicaitons.
Prior to joining Basalt International, Nick founded Smarter Building Systems, where he introduced basalt reinforcement products to the U.S. market, engaging clients with hundreds of millions in potential sales. Brit Svoboda leads Composite Bridge & Infrastructure Technology Business Development at Basalt International, bringing over a decade of expertise in advancing sustainable composite solutions for modern infrastructure. Kenneth Sweeney, Chief Engineer at Basalt International, brings close to 50 years of engineering experience to the company. With over 10 years’ experience in the composite structural systems industry, Ken brings a vast amount of expertise and knowledge to the team. He has been a key leader in developing and implementing new technologies, processes, and materials to continually improve the functionality and quality of transportation civil infrastructure. Ken’s leadership has been integral in advancing the use of composite materials in construction projects including, but not limited to, The Grist Mill Bridge project in Hampden, Maine and the Llewellyn Estes Bridge project in Old Town, Maine. The Grist Mill Bridge was the pilot project of the composite tub girder system and won the Best Use of Technology and Innovation for the regional 2022 America’s Transportation Awards competition, sponsored by AASHTO. The Llewellyn Estes Bridges project contains the longest clear span of any FRP vehicular bridge in the world.
Kenneth holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Lowell Technological Institute and a Master of Science in Public Administration from the University of Maine. He has served over 10 years as an active member of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials Standing Committee on Research and Chair of the Technology Implementation Group, as well as a member of the Board of Licensing of Professional Engineers. Ken’s diverse knowledge and background in engineering and leadership roles, as well as his detail-oriented and strategic approach to project planning further empower the Basalt International team in their goal of revolutionizing construction for a stronger, greener future.
Wendell Harriman II. PE, Vice President of Operations at Basalt International Design and Engineering, brings over 30 years of experience in construction, infrastructure development and advanced materials manufacturing to the company. During his career, Wendell has led medium to large-scale building and earthwork projects while developing a deeper understanding of structural performance, field conditions, and the importance of durable design. For over 10 years, he has had the opportunity to specialize in engineering, manufacturing and construction of composite girders and buried arch bridges, helping pioneer the use of FRP (fiber reinforced polymer) systems in infrastructure. Wendell has extensive project experience in developing and scaling composites manufacturing operations. He is the current installation technical representative for the arch system. His project portfolio includes projects in all of New England, Pennsylvania, Florida, Washington, and Arizona.
Wendell holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering as well as a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management. Wendell’s leadership of high-performing teams, long-term perspective, and extensive construction and engineering experience, further empower Basalt International’s team in their goal of transforming the construction industry with innovative sustainable solutions. Timothy Kenerson, Vice President of Engineering at Basalt International, brings over 12 years of composite and hybrid structure design and engineering experience to the company. Known as one of the preeminent engineers of the Composite Arch Bridge System and the Composite Tub Girder System, Tim has been an integral part of the entire process of delivering these systems including estimating, designing, manufacturing, and supplying all components. He has an impressive project portfolio including roles as both primary designer and engineer of record on projects in multiple states including Maine, Rhode Island, Florida and Washington. These projects include both the Grist Mill Bridge in Hampden, Maine and the Llewellyn Estes Bridge project in Old Town, Maine. He has experience, not only in bridge design, but also piers, sandwich panels, pedestrian bridges, retaining walls, deep foundations, composite decking and traffic barriers. Dr. Habib Dagher is a member of Basalt International’s Advisory Board, bringing world-renowned expertise in composite innovation and structural performance. As the founding Director of the Advanced Structures and Composites Center at the University of Maine that grew to 420 employees, Dr. Dagher has pioneered high-performance composite materials that set new standards for durability and sustainability in construction. “Basalt composites are the future of infrastructure—they’re non-corrosive, resilient, and ideal for projects that demand strength and longevity,” he shares.
With over 40 years of experience and more than 100 patents, Dr. Dagher has led groundbreaking projects that won him world recognition. Gregory Nadeau serves as a member of Basalt International’s Advisory Board, contributing over 35 years of expertise in infrastructure innovation, public policy, and sustainable development. A former Administrator of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and a Nic While at FHWA, he led the groundbreaking Every Day Counts (EDC) partnership with the states, which helped transform project delivery nationwide by promoting technologies that enhanced sustainability, saved time, money and highway safety.

Thomas Henley is a senior-level investment professional with in excess of 30 years of business/financial/ investment experience, executing transactions in excess of $100 billion throughout his career. Mr. Henley currently serves as a Managing Director at Bernhard Capital Partners (“BCP”), a $3.5 billion private investment firm operating two core platforms – private equity and infrastructure where he is a member of the firm’s investment committee.
Mr. Henley is proficient in mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, strategic analysis, investment and valuation analysis, deal sourcing, and governance evaluation. He maintains extensive relationships across the general business and financial spectrum, with deep expertise within private capital valuation and transaction structures.
Mr. Henley earned an MBA from the Anderson Graduate School of Management at UCLA where he received a Chevron Fellowship in Finance, and a B.S. from Stanford University with a degree in Petroleum Engineering. Mr. Henley is also a board member of multiple companies and not-for-profit entities.
Galina possesses deep expertise in electrification, asset-backed business models, and digital enablement across commercial fleets, clean energy infrastructure, and mobility ecosystems.
She co-founded REEF Energy, a platform that helped secure a $300M property fund with Oaktree, and now drives strategy and growth at Mitra EV, an electrification platform serving commercial fleet operators through infrastructure asset development and leasing.
She began her career at McKinsey & Company, advising global transportation clients, and earned her education from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and Harvard University. She is fluent in English, Russian, Mandarin, and Spanish.
